Mailo offers an access under guardianship feature, that allows the creation of a simplified and secure access to the account, suitable for a person requiring assistance or supervision.
Nowadays everyone may need an email address, and therefore an email service, in order to communicate.
However using an email service is not easy for some people in difficulty:
- Some email services are complex and numerous secondary features can make the basic features difficult to use or overwhelm a person in difficulty.
- Some features can be enabled or disabled inadvertantly, which could modify the service and disturb a person in difficulty.
Mailo offers a service which can be adapted specifically to each person in difficulty.
In the following paragraphs, the person helping the person in difficulty will be called guardian.
In order to use the access under guardianship feature provided by Mailo, the guardian must follow this procedure:
- The guardian creates a normal Mailo account, thus putting themself in the place of the person in difficulty. The email address of the created account is the one which will be used by the person in difficulty. The profile must be the one of the person in difficulty. However the chosen password must be carefully kept secret by the guardian. The guardian is the legal owner of the account within the meaning of the Terms of Use of Mailo.
- In the Mailo account created for the person under guardianship, the guardian takes a Premium subscription.
- In the Mailo account created for the person under guardianship, the guardian configures the access under guardianship. It is done in this page: Options > Your account > Access under guardianship
- The guardian chooses the password which the person in difficulty will use for the access under guardianship.
- The guardian can indicate their name, their personal email address and their phone number, which will be displayed when the person in difficulty is looking for help in the interface.
- The guardian chooses precisely which features the person under guardianship will find in the interface adapted for them. For most of the features, it is possible to prevent the person under guardianship from adding, modifying or deleting data. This allows for instance to activate the address book while making sure that the person under guardianship will not modify or delete the contacts by mistake.
- The guardian can specify the IP address or the IP address range which the person in difficulty will use for their access under guardianship, for instance the fixed IP address of their home or retirement home. Even if the person under guardianship inadvertantly gives away their password, a malicious person will not be able to use it to sign in from another IP address.
- The guardian can create a bookmark on the computer, tablet or phone of the person in difficulty, so that they can directly access www.mailo.com.
- The guardian gives the person under guardianship the information they need to sign in: their email address and the password of the access under guardianship. The guardian can also save these credentials on the browser of the person under guardianship so that they only have to click on the button to sign in.
- The guardian can install the Mailo app on the phone or the tablet of the person under guardianship and configure it with the access under guardianship.
Most of the features in the interface can be enabled or disabled, potentially in a read-only mode. In particular:
- Dashboard
- Address book
- Virtual disk
- Calendar
- Tasks
- Reminders
- Chat
- Notes
- Sticky notes
- Keyring
- Bookmarks
- RSS feeds
- Options
- Internet search
